Music Ed Reimagined
A Resource Collective
Utilizing a Participatory Framework Towards Creating a Collective of Resources that are Inclusive to all Musics and Pedagogies.
Why is this collective necessary?
The existing curriculum and pedagogical practices upheld by the Ontario school system has lead to a lack of diversity and representation of all musics – particularly the displacement of other musics such as Canada’s Indigenous musics.
In response to this issue, Lauren Femson - Facilitator, explains how a participatory framework can be utilized in the process of choosing resources for curriculum and pedagogical practices within Ontario’s music education – K-12.
While drawing on the work of arts education authors, the creation of a framework outlines how to choose resources that utilize music education as a powerful tool; its focus: instilling justice-oriented cultural citizenship and cultural production while fostering stigma and judgment-free counter spaces.
This collective exists as a tool that can utilized in the process of educators choosing resources for curriculum and pedagogical practices in music education contexts – K-12, as well as a space that has compiled those already discovered.
